Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! (Psalm 34:3 ESV)
The joy and delight of every person who has by faith come to Jesus is to magnify the Lord! Is there any higher calling and responsibility in all the world? As we look at this verse, we notice that this calling begins with one’s own personal walk with the Lord. Because of God’s grace and mercy in my own life I want others to join in with me!
Whenever we find something good in life we want to share it. I have an app on my phone that shares the “good news” of the lowest gas price in my area. On Facebook, I can “like” a picture or an article and share it with my friends. If someone says something that causes me to think I can retweet it on Twitter. When God has demonstrated his love for us we want to share it. We desire that others to experience the joy of making his name great, to magnify the Lord.
“Let us exalt his name together.” Is there anything better that a group of people can do? Is there anything that brings such deep satisfaction and contentment? C.S. Lewis said in a sermon entitled “The Weight of Glory”, “Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
We are happy to talk about a myriad of things which are trivial compared to praising, or exalting, the name of The Lord. The truly wonderful thing is that we get to do so together! I am never moved so much as when I gather together with a group of God’s people and we exalt his name!
Today, you and I will have the privilege of exalting the name of The Lord! What an honour! Let’s do it with all of our heart, soul and mind!
Good stuff, Bill…we are at our best when we are focusing on the Lord.

Makes me want to sing that old chorus, seldom heard anymore, O magnify The Lord, for He is worthy to be praised.”
