Experiencing God’s Love

ImageTo this day I am surprised by it.  Are you?  It is the one thing that you and I have the greatest need for but we look for it in all the wrong places.  We were born with the innate desire to be loved.  It absolutely shocks me what people will do to get it.

Men, generally speaking, think of love is a purely physical, sexual sense.  They look for it to try and satisfy the longing for true love. the sad part is that unless they find true love they will spend there life in an endless search for it.  Women, generally speaking, look for security that love brings, they will stay in damaging relationships with abusers and those who take advantage of them, because of this security.  Both men and women need love, both may received it differently but both are in need of it.

When God expresses his love for us through the cross of Jesus Christ, he provides a deep sense of satisfaction and security, nothing like the world could ever match.  God’s love changes us at the core of our being.  He transform us into people who have found his love to be the greatest fulfillment in life. Jesus died on the cross in God’s expression of love for us so that we can live in that love EVERYDAY!

The deception of sin comes when it tries to convince us that we are missing out.  Sin knocks on our doors with the invitation to experience love but its deception is that it is a very temporary fulfillment.  We have to go back to that experience time after time after time.  The portrayal of content people who cheat on their spouses is just not true, don’t buy it!

In my study of the epistle of First John, I have learned that God’s love is radically different than what the world tempts us with.  in chapter 2:15-17 John writes, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world -the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

Every time sin knocks on my door I have to decide between experiencing God’s love or something that will pass away. I am learning day by day that it is much better to experience God’s love and say ‘no’ to sin!  The difference between Christians who live in the love of God and those who don’t is whose love they prefer to experience.

How are you doing today in experiencing God’s love?  My prayer is that you and I will live contentedly each day in his always abounding, never ending love!
