Really? Always…and…in everything? You can’t be serious!
That is my first reaction as I read Ephesians 5:20, “…giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” What an unbelievable statement! My question is: “Who can do that?”
I can think of plenty of things that have been very difficult to handle in my life. Can you? I remember trying to battle my way through my first sermon that I preached when I was learning Spanish. Or, when my daughter got very sick very early one morning that we had to rush to the hospital as she suffered a burst appendix.
Whenever God puts us in circumstances that challenge our faith we wonder what in the world is going on. How come God didn’t do something? How come me? Here I am trying my best to live for the Lord and then THIS!
The Christian knows that God has a plan for everything that occurs in life. I may not understand at the time “WHY” but I can trust him always and in everything.
I can develop that godly attitude if I live daily with a Holy Spirit controlled attitude. The context of this verse in Ephesians is chapter 5 verse 18. “…be filled with the Spirit”. Present tense verb that means continually be filled. I am to allow the Spirit to rule and reign in my life and attitude.
How are you doing? Do you have a thankful attitude that is “always” and in “everything”? Ask the Lord to give you that. It will make a huge difference in your life!
