God is Always Good

Have you ever made plans that were full of dreams and hopes? You thought to yourself, “This is it, it is exactly what I need tohappen!” Only to find out that for one reason or another it is not going to happen. Just this week, I am wrestling with just this topic. I find myself again sitting quietly before the Lord worshipping Him for His goodness and divine sovereignty.

Many people wrestle with the question of the goodness of God in situations much worse than what ai am currently experiencing. I could spend the rest of the blog mentioning them but they are obvious to us, Life hurt, it is hard and sometimes, quite frankly, just stinks!
So I come back to Psalm 118 today and park my life beside it. I read that God is good and that His mercy endures forever, and that I should praise Him with that mercy in the front of my thoughts. I come to realize that what I need most is not to have my own dreams and desires granted but live in the wonder of being a sinner who has fallen short of the glory of God and been granted mercy! That is true goodness! That is a gift that I ought to meditate on and rejoice in everyday of my best life!

Today, the sun came up, and God continues to show His mercy to you and me. He invites us to cast our care upon Him because He cares for us! Today is a good day, my friend, because God continues to be God and His love endures forever! Therefore, if we apply 1 John 2:27 to remain in Him, we will be able to live rejoicing in His goodness!

Running to Win the Race

running to win

As often as I have watched the Olympic games, I have never seen a medal ceremony that included just the participants! It is those who finish, and finish well that are standing on the podium. There are examples of this all through the Bible.  One such example is King Uzziah.

Are you ready?

“All aboard the roller coaster 2015 now leaving platform 1!”

We are not sure at all what is ahead of us but we are strapped in ready for some excitement. The great news is that we are not left guessing about what the road ahead looks like because we know who is in charge. He has a plan for our good and for our growth as we walk daily with Him.

We are not sure at all what is ahead of us but we move ahead full of faith that God will not be surprised by one thing. We know that everyday that He gives us breath that He has a purpose for our lives. Therefore, we live for His purpose not for ours. We put his agenda ahead of ours and delight in living to serve Him and others.

As I anticipate this year I want to continue to strive ahead for all that the Lord has for me to accomplish. I know that whatever I accomplish it is rooted in the daily habits of reading and meditating on His Word, asking Him for daily doses of wisdom to be prudent in the use of time and energy. My priorities must be aligned with His. Matthew 6:33 tells me to seek God first above anyone or anything else. That is my daily battle because I struggle with the flesh and the world to control my thinking and feelings.

I also want to be a faithful husband to my wife. I want to grow in my love for her and deepen those cords. This year we will celebrate 32 years of wedded bliss! That is hard to believe but it is only because of her patience and God’s faithfulness that we have made it this far.

I want to be faithful to the ministry that God has called me to. It is my desire to grow in my knowledge of the Word of God and its application to my own life and the life of those I have been called to shepherd. I want to continue to be involved in serving the Spanish speaking church, wherever that may be. I am not sure what form that will take but I trust God to open those doors in his timing.

God also surprises us along the way. I am sure that in 2015 he will do the same. What about you? God has given us tremendous opportunities to grow in our relationship with Him and grow in love with others. Pray, be observant, and be involved in His work!

I close this blog with Paul’s prayer for the Romans in that New Testament Epistle, chapter 12:1-2. “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Are you ready for the ride?

Life’s Great Purpose

68A978F8-1AC2-4ACC-8C16-339BEF91D575Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! (Psalm 34:3 ESV)

The joy and delight of every person who has by faith come to Jesus is to magnify the Lord! Is there any higher calling and responsibility in all the world? As we look at this verse, we notice that this calling begins with one’s own personal walk with the Lord. Because of God’s grace and mercy in my own life I want others to join in with me!

The Adventure of Faith

The life of faith is an adventure like none other. This coming January 16th, I will celebrate yet another birthday. They seem to come all too frequently these days. One thing that I never tire of is seeing how God leads us, no matter how old I get.  There are turns and twists, unexpected surprises and discouraging situations.  It reminds me of the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament.  Continue reading “The Adventure of Faith”
