Rescued by Love

It is said that love is what makes the world go around.  Indeed, love is the fuel that you and I need daily to get us up in the morning and to keep us motivated through the myriad of challenges we encounter each day.  But, it seems to me that us mortals have very different definitions of love than God does.  Continue reading “Rescued by Love”

Slow and Steady

slow_m9I am finally learning the secret of success.  Notice the key word in that sentence, ‘learning.’  I am still in the process of learning how to be a better husband, a better father, a better friend and a better pastor.

We Need Help

help-buttonYou can’t make it on your own.  You need help.  Contrary to popular thinking, it is not a sign of weakness to arrive at that conclusion.  In fact, one of the great dichotomies of the Bible is this, “When I am weak, then I am strong.”Continue reading “We Need Help”

Jars of Clay

Clay PotsWhen God gets set to do something special among us, he usually does so through by choosing people who would be judged the most unlikely of candidates.  Some would even classify them as frail, needy and broken.  I have been preparing this week to share with our church the vision statement that the elders have been praying about and working on. I have come to the conclusion that God is not looking for experts but rather those who are willing to follow Him completely and totally.  Continue reading “Jars of Clay”

Weighing the Options

Why are we such easy prey when sin presents itself to us?  Here is an intriguing verse from 2 Chronicles 25:15, The Lord had sent one of his representatives to address King Amaziah and said,”Why have you sought the gods of a people who did not deliver their own people from your hand?” In other words, “what are you thinking? If the gods of your enemies were useless to stop you, what makes you think that all of a sudden these gods are worth following!” Continue reading “Weighing the Options”

Just Beginning!

I started writing this blog with the goal of sharing what God has been teaching me. There is no “Rocket Scientist” material here only the thoughts of one still journeying with God. Here is a list of the most popular postings that have been published to date.  We are just beginning to develop this writing ministry.  I hope that you have been blessed by it. StarbucksContinue reading “Just Beginning!”

In God We Trust

Man Lifting Daughter Into AirFor many people the issue of trusting someone else is huge. They have learned that the only one they can and should trust is themselves. As a result, they live with doubts and fears burdened with the worries of when the next proverbial shoe will drop. Continue reading “In God We Trust”

Life’s Great Purpose

68A978F8-1AC2-4ACC-8C16-339BEF91D575Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! (Psalm 34:3 ESV)

The joy and delight of every person who has by faith come to Jesus is to magnify the Lord! Is there any higher calling and responsibility in all the world? As we look at this verse, we notice that this calling begins with one’s own personal walk with the Lord. Because of God’s grace and mercy in my own life I want others to join in with me!

Growing in Grace

YImageou have heard the old saying, “I am praying for patience and I want it now!”  It is so true in many areas of life that what we need to learn only comes as we apply the principle of patience in our lives.  My former professor and pastor often says in regards to people who strive for positions that they are not ready for, “That person has not suffered enough.”  He is saying that we desire that God place us in positions of employment that we have not the maturity nor the experience to handle.Continue reading “Growing in Grace”

Step by Step

step

When I first became in Christian in 1978, I knew very little about the discipline it would require to live the Christian life.  Soon after God invaded my life, I was soon met with challenges in my life that I never had before.  Yes, I was now assured of a home in heaven when I died but I struggled with the reality of the battle between my new nature and the old, cantankerous one that refused to let go.
